Nature’s own ice sculptures

Nature’s own ice sculptures appeared on the bank of the lake after windy and ice cold night. It was stormy night and the waves hit the beach. One after another. Next morning the wind had calmed down and there were magnificent installations on the beach. The sun was shining and ice was gleaming.

These photos have been shot without camera stand and with my 70 – 200 mm lens.

As it has been mild this winter these magnificent sculptures lasted only one day.

Climate change

It has been blowing and raining this winter more than ever before. We have had frost and snow in the South only couple of days, mainly it has been rainy, dark days. It feels like November whole winter. On the other hand on the North Finland it has been really cold days, over -30 degrees celsius, and there has been a lot of snow.

Du to the climate change precipitation will increase in the winter and it will more often fall down as rain rather than as snow.

The climate change is effecting also on the storm winds. This winter it has been blowing hard from south/west and there has been damages on the forests as trees have been falling down. You can read more of the climate change in Finland HERE.

Thank you for sharing Moomin ice sculpture example. Hopefully next winter is colder and there is possibility to create ice sculptures more often either by nature or by human.

      Happy weekend to you too!
