Sleeping Roe deer in a misty field, something I couldn’t ever imagine to experience.
I had just arrived to a field, where deers regularly eat. It was early, Misty morning in May and I was heading further to a place I knew deers pasture. Suddenly ahead me on the ground was brown hairy ball with two ears and some peaks.
I could not believe my eyes, male deer was sleeping in the ground 10 meters away from me.

I sat quietly down. I was pretty sure that the deer wakes up and leaves. I raised my camera and started to shoot. Click, click. Ears moving. Click, click. The head rises.

The deer realizes my presence and just in a second it jumps up and runs away from me.

Just before jumping into the forest Roe deer stops and stares at me. It is a quick glance, then it disappears into the misty forest. I am in a heaven as I was so close to this sensitive and easily escaping animal!

You must have been very quiet! Finnish White-tailed Deer look different than US White-Tailed deer in a few ways. The antlers are not as close for one thing. Here in Colorado we have Mule Deer. They are larger and have big (mule-like) ears. They come to our property throughout the day. These are great captures and I especially like ‘Last Glance’.

Thank you Denise for your comment! When I realised that a deer was sleeping 10 meters away from me, I sat down very quietly. Unfortunately my camera was not so quiet 😂 and the deer realized my presence. Our white-tailed deers were imported 1930’s from North America, I assume from Minnesota. There were four female and one male on the first time and then later on another bunch of four females and one male. It might be that during 70-80 years the look of the Deer has changed a bit😊. Last Glance is also my favorite 🙂 Have a great day!
