Kuusamo’s Amazing Nature: Embracing the Beauty of Waterfalls

Kuusamo´s nature is amazing! Especially I have enjoyed the beauty of waterfalls, lakes and swamps, and of course birds.

Kuusamo, located in northern Finland, is a region renowned for its unique and pristine natural beauty. The nature is unique because of its unspoiled wilderness, seasonal diversity, abundant wildlife, and and the way it allows visitors to experience the pure, untouched beauty of the natural world.

Kuusamo fever

The rare moments of light and the changing seasons is captured in Tauno Kohonen’s videos, which emphasise the significance of nature in Kuusamo.

People who has visited Kuusamo, say that Kuusamo has a way of enchanting your soul, a phenomenon often referred to as Kuusamo fever, and I can attest that it is real. The moment I set foot in this beautiful place, I was overcome by its spell, and, like so many others, I found myself longing to return again and again.

Kiutaköngäs, the most magnificent waterfall in Finland

Kiutaköngäs doesn’t advertise itself as Finland’s most magnificent waterfall. This natural gem is so impressive that it can be counted among the most spectacular of Finnish waterfalls.

Due to its natural beauty and accessibility, Kiutaköngäs is a favourite spot for photographers who is seeking for stunning Finnish wilderness. The roar of the rapids is ear-numbing and you could stare at the flowing water for hours.

On my video you can experience the awesomeness of rapids for yourself.

Myllykoski, beautiful and well-known waterfall in Kuusamo

Myllykoski is a beautiful and well-known waterfall located in Kuusamo. Myllykoski is situated along the Kitkajoki River, in the Oulanka National Park, in Kuusamo. The Oulanka National Park is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, and Myllykoski is one of its notable attractions.

Myllykoski is a picturesque waterfall characterised by its rugged surroundings and pristine waters. The waterfall itself consists of multiple cascades, with the largest one having a height of around 8 meters (26 feet). The water flows through rocky terrain, creating a visually striking scene.

I have visited Myllykoski during winter and autumn and must say that it is captivating in all seasons. Autumn brings vibrant foliage while in winter, the waterfall and its surroundings are often covered in snow and ice, creating a different but equally enchanting scene.

Myllykoski is located within the protected boundaries of Oulanka National Park, where conservation efforts are in place to preserve the natural ecosystem and biodiversity.

  1. This is quite wonderful. I never thought of dedicated mistphotographers, but I really enjoyed that short film and I have always loved the sound of rushing water. I am attracted to water in any form, just about, especially waterfalls. I would want to keep going back as well. Thank you for this!
